Vendors at KDCA Bring Kaamatan to Life By: Writer On-The-Go
As the month of May unfolds, the spirit of Kaamatan begins to bloom across Sabah like golden paddy swaying beneath the harvest sun. At the heart of the celebration, the grounds of the Kadazandusun Cultural Association come alive from 15th May onwards, transforming into a vibrant cultural marketplace filled with food, music, tradition, and festive energy.
Rows of vendors line the bustling pathways, offering everything from sizzling barbecue delights and bamboo-cooked specialties to beloved Sabahan traditional dishes rich with heritage and flavour. The aroma of grilled delicacies dances through the air while visitors gather with family and friends, sharing laughter, stories, and unforgettable moments.
Beyond the food, Kaamatan at KDCA is a celebration of togetherness. Handmade crafts, cultural treasures, refreshing beverages, and local creations reflect the beauty and diversity of Sabah’s communities. Every stall tells its own story, adding colour and character to the festive atmosphere.
As music echoes across the grounds and celebrations continue into the evening, visitors are reminded that Kaamatan is more than just a festival. It is a tribute to gratitude, unity, culture, and the enduring spirit of the people.
And while the festivities are filled with joyful toasts and cheerful gatherings, all are encouraged to celebrate responsibly and safely throughout the season.
Happy Kaamatan 2026.
May this harvest festival continue to unite hearts, preserve traditions, and inspire joyful memories for generations to come.
