Signature Food Fest Judging at Tasty Wok@Vinition - Upper Palace Dining Group - Feature by Writer On-The-Go | Lorena Binisol

The Venetian Club’s Signature Food Tasty Wok once again captivated discerning diners during the 5th Edition of The Signature Food Fest, presenting a refined tasting experience that celebrated the artistry of dim sum and the enduring elegance of Chinese gastronomy.

Hosted by General Manager Andy Yip, the luncheon unfolded as a curated culinary showcase, where every dish reflected precision, heritage, and contemporary indulgence. Guests were first introduced to the timeless delicacy of Siumai, exquisitely crafted with ground meat and shrimp wrapped in delicate yellow pastry and crowned with crab roe or carrot. Its refined presentation set a sophisticated tone for the afternoon.

Another standout creation was the Wukok, a golden taro dumpling celebrated for its crisp exterior and rich savoury filling of minced meat, mushrooms, and aromatic seasoning. The contrast between its airy shell and flavourful centre delivered a memorable textural experience.

Among the crowd favourites were the indulgent Golden Lava Bun and the elegant Portuguese Tart, both offering a luxurious finish to the dim sum selection. Beyond dim sum, the Hong Kong-inspired culinary lineup featured signature dishes including the fragrant Upper Palace Fried Rice, comforting Hokkien Mee, bold Mongolian Chicken, and the irresistible Salted Egg Pumpkin.

Stealing the spotlight of the afternoon was the Assam Nyonya Seafood Claypot, a soulful masterpiece layered with tangy richness and comforting depth. Served alongside steaming white rice, the dish quickly became the unanimous favourite among guests, praised for its vibrant flavours and deeply satisfying character.

Andy Yip shared that the kitchen is helmed by five highly skilled chefs trained under the guidance of a Hong Kong master chef, ensuring each dish remains rooted in authentic tradition while embracing modern creativity. He also highlighted the restaurant’s exclusive White Pau imported from Ipoh, Perak, distinguished by its rare double-layered texture that elevates the dining experience with added richness and finesse.

Strategically located within The Venetian Club, Tasty Wok offers an elevated dining destination for both travellers and local gourmands, complete with ample complimentary parking and effortless accessibility.

As Sabah’s culinary landscape continues to evolve, Signature Food Tasty Wok stands confidently at the forefront, blending heritage recipes with contemporary innovation. Through uncompromising quality, authentic craftsmanship, and refined presentation, the restaurant continues to shape a dining culture that feels both timeless and refreshingly modern.
