Gold Medal Glory: East Malaysian Barista Shines on the Global Coffee Stage
A moment of pride has arrived for Malaysia’s coffee community as remarkable news emerges from Jiangmen, China. At the prestigious 2026 World Coffee Blending Championship Global Finals, Team Malaysia delivered an exceptional performance, returning home with a historic achievement that places East Malaysian coffee craftsmanship firmly on the international map.
Representing Sabah, barista Ivershaun captivated the global stage with an outstanding display of skill and precision, securing the Gold Medal in the Best Americano Blending category. His victory stands as a proud testament to the dedication, artistry, and rising excellence of Borneo’s coffee talents.
This remarkable journey was made possible through the collaboration between the Borneo Coffee Alliance under the Federation of Sabah Industries and the Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce. The mission was led by BCA Chairman Dicklee, together with Vice Chairman Alexander Yee, Committee Member Lucas, and Vice President of SCCC Chiew Heng Hock, alongside Committee Member James Lee. Their leadership marks the second time they have successfully guided a top-tier East Malaysian barista team to compete on the global stage.

Held from 5 to 8 March 2026, the World Coffee Blending Championship Global Finals brought together some of the world’s finest baristas, celebrating innovation, technique, and the art of coffee blending. For Malaysia, and especially for East Malaysia, the event became a powerful platform to introduce the distinctive aroma and character of Borneo coffee to an international audience.
This victory is more than a medal. It is a celebration of heritage, craft, and the relentless pursuit of excellence.
