A Royal Tribute in Culinary Artistry: A Grand Celebration at Le Méridien Kota Kinabalu

In a moment where heritage meets haute craftsmanship, Le Méridien Kota Kinabalu unveiled an extraordinary centrepiece to honour the 75th Official Birthday of Tun Musa Aman, Sabah’s 11th Yang di-Pertua Negeri.

This was not merely a cake.
It was a sculptural expression of reverence.

Inspired by the Bantal Istiadat Diraja—a ceremonial royal cushion synonymous with dignity and sovereign grace—the creation stood as a poetic interpretation of tradition, reimagined through the lens of culinary artistry. Every curve, every detail echoed the language of heritage, transformed into an edible masterpiece befitting a distinguished state occasion.

Measuring an impressive 90 cm by 70 cm and weighing 60 kilograms, the masterpiece was meticulously brought to life over five days by the hotel’s elite culinary artisans. Behind its refined exterior lies a symphony of precision: 480 eggs, rich butter, delicate custard, and layers of intricate finishing that elevate the piece beyond confection into art.

At the helm, General Manager Suresh Ramasamy reflected on the significance of the creation:

“We are deeply honored to contribute to such a meaningful celebration. This piece was conceived not only as a tribute, but as an embodiment of elegance, culture, and respect for tradition.”

The result is a striking visual narrative—one that bridges ceremonial symbolism with contemporary finesse. It captures more than celebration; it captures legacy.

In the presence of distinguished guests, including Tun Musa Aman and Toh Puan Datin Seri Panglima Datuk Hajah Faridah Tussin, the unveiling moment carried a quiet grandeur. A shared smile, a moment of admiration—proof that true artistry speaks without words.

At its core, this creation reflects what Le Méridien Kota Kinabalu does best: transforming occasions into experiences, and traditions into timeless expressions of beauty.
