INDIGENOUS FLOWERS AND FRUITS FESTIVAL 2026

The Indigenous Flowers and Fruits Festival 2026 will be held from 12 September to 20 September 2026 at Sabah Agricultural Park, Tenom.

Beginning in 2024, the annual Flowers Festival, which had previously been held biennially, was further strengthened by incorporating the importance of Indigenous Fruits into conservation activities carried out by Sabah Agricultural Park.

This programmed is not merely an exhibition, but a meaningful gathering for everyone to collectively appreciate, preserve and develop the unique biodiversity treasures of Sabah that have been passed down through generations.

SABAH AGRICULTURAL PARK

Sabah Agricultural Park, or TPS, Tenom, was opened to visitors in October 2000, with its official opening ceremony held on 25 March 2001, officiated by the Prime Minister of Malaysia at the time.

Specifically, the objective of TPS is to carry out ex-situ conservation activities for indigenous plants found in Sabah, serve as a learning centre, and act as a catalyst for the agro-tourism industry, contributing towards the state's goal of increasing Sabah's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to RM100 billion by 2030.

The Sabah Department of Agriculture actively carries out conservation, propagation and promotional programmes involving plants such as orchids, Tenom Durian, Tuhau, Tarap, and various other species that have become part of the identity of Borneo.

To date, a total of 1,925 indigenous plant germplasm collections from Sabah have been conserved at TPS. The Sabah Department of Agriculture's continued commitment is demonstrated through TPS's ongoing efforts to expand its collection of indigenous plant germplasm.

NINE DAYS OF FLOWERS, FRUITS & DISCOVERY

The Indigenous Flowers and Fruits Festival 2026 will be held over nine days, from 12 September to 20 September 2026.

The festival features a wide range of programmes and activities designed to cater to visitors of all ages, with the aim of attracting local visitors, domestic tourists and international tourists.

The festival also serves as a platform for floriculture entrepreneurs and enthusiasts to gather, exchange knowledge and participate in the various activities prepared throughout the event.

The festival will also feature Agrotour and Agrotalk programmes, offering informative and educational activities including:

• Plant propagation, with a focus on ornamental plants, orchids and fruits

• Compost production

• Terrarium making

• Edible Garden

• Exploring TPS

• Leisure fishing

• Stingless bee farming

• Conservation Programme sharing sessions

CELEBRATING SABAH'S INDIGENOUS TREASURES

The festival aims to connect and introduce local communities, researchers and tourists to the rich diversity of Sabah's indigenous flowers and fruit species.

It also seeks to strengthen conservation efforts both on farms and outside their natural habitats, explore the market potential and added value of local products, and recognise the contributions of traditional knowledge held by local communities.

myTPS: YOUR DIGITAL GATEWAY TO TPS

The Sabah Department of Agriculture has provided an online platform known as myTPS, designed to make it easier for visitors to purchase tickets and make bookings for facilities at Sabah Agricultural Park.

The application can be accessed at any time, with online payments available through Sabah Pay.

A LIVING CLASSROOM FOR SABAH

The organisation of the Indigenous Flowers and Fruits Festival 2026 is in line with the objectives and functions of Sabah Agricultural Park as an ex-situ plant conservation centre and a living classroom for educational activities.

Through its combination of conservation, education, agriculture, culture, recreation and tourism, the festival reinforces Sabah Agricultural Park's role as one of the state's important tourist attractions.
