A NEW CHAPTER IN CARE Sabah’s Aged Care Providers Unite for the Future - Comfort Aged Care - Wholistic Approach

There are moments when a conversation becomes more than a conversation. It becomes the beginning of something with the potential to shape a community for years to come.

Such was the spirit of the inaugural Pro-Tem Meeting of Sabah Aged Care Service Providers, where representatives from eight aged care service providers and one caregiver training academy gathered for an afternoon of thoughtful dialogue, shared experiences and a common vision for the future.

Held from 10.00am to 12.30pm, the meeting brought together 12 participants, each representing different professional backgrounds and organizations, yet united by one deeply meaningful purpose: to enhance the quality of life of older persons and provide stronger support for their families.

The gathering began with introductions that offered a particularly personal perspective into the world of aged care. Participants spoke not only about their professional journeys, but also about how they entered the sector, when their services began and, most significantly, the personal experiences and motivations that inspired them to dedicate themselves to caring for older persons.

Behind every organization was a story. Behind every service was a sense of purpose.

What emerged from the discussions was a shared recognition that Sabah is entering an important new chapter. As the population ages, the conversation surrounding elder care must evolve beyond individual services towards a more connected, professional and compassionate ecosystem of care.

Among the key topics discussed were workforce development, caregiver education and training, quality standards, healthy ageing initiatives and greater collaboration across the aged care sector.

The meeting also highlighted the value of bringing together professionals who may operate independently, yet face many of the same challenges and opportunities. By sharing knowledge, experiences and perspectives, the sector has the potential to create stronger foundations for the years ahead.

While the meeting marked an encouraging first step, participants recognized that there remains much to consider, including the future direction, objectives and structure of the proposed collaboration. With this in mind, everyone agreed to take time to reflect on the discussions before reconvening on 3 October 2026.

The gathering was made possible in part through the generous support of Mdm Ellen Yee of Passion Care Centre, who sponsored the meeting venue and refreshments while also assisting with its facilitation.

For those working within aged care, the significance of the gathering extends far beyond a single afternoon.

It represents a recognition that ageing is not simply a demographic transition. It is a shared social responsibility, one that calls for dignity, compassion, professionalism and cooperation.

Every meaningful journey begins with a conversation. In Sabah, this conversation has now begun.

And perhaps the most powerful message from this first gathering is beautifully simple:

Today, we meet as individual care providers. Tomorrow, we build a community of collaboration for the future of ageing in Sabah.

Favstyle Media Magazine celebrates this important initiative and the individuals and organizations committed to building a more compassionate, connected and dignified future for older persons and their families in Sabah.
