Favstyle: You began your pageant journey at only nine years old. What inspired you to take your first step into this world?

Adelline Andrew:

"I started with absolutely no experience. Everything was new to me, from walking on stage to speaking confidently in front of judges and audiences.

What encouraged me the most was the unwavering support from my family. They saw how passionate I was about pageantry and believed in my dreams even during difficult moments. Their encouragement gave me the confidence to continue learning and improving."



Beyond Crowns and Sashes

Favstyle: Many people see pageantry as glamour. What does it truly mean to you?

Adelline Andrew:

"Pageantry is much more than beautiful gowns and crowns. It teaches discipline, confidence, respect, communication, and resilience.

Every competition is a classroom where I learn something new about myself. Whether I win or not, every experience helps me become a stronger and better version of who I was before."

Favstyle: How has pageantry changed you as a person?

Adelline Andrew:

"Before joining pageants, I was shy. Today, I feel much more confident speaking to people, meeting new friends, and expressing myself.

Pageantry has taught me to believe in my own abilities, to stay humble, and to never stop learning. Confidence isn't about being perfect. It's about having the courage to keep moving forward."

A Proud Daughter of Sabah

Born and raised in Sabah, Adelline proudly embraces her heritage. Her maternal roots trace back to Pitas, while her paternal family originates from Papar.

She believes that representing Sabah is both an honour and a responsibility, carrying the values of kindness, diversity, and cultural pride wherever she goes.

Don't be afraid to make mistakes because every challenge teaches you something valuable. Stay kind, work hard, listen to those who guide you, and never give up on your dreams."

It was a very fulfilling and insightful trip to Keningau recently, where the Angin family from Kg. Biah, Sook celebrated an important engagement ceremony. A family member was engaged to someone from outside the Murut community. Shonney Doney, who is of Murut and Dusun heritage, became engaged to a Sino-Kadazan young man from outside the Keningau district. What was truly special is that the Angin family prepared a cultural presentation featuring Siopon, a traditional homemade rice drink kept in jars. The beverage has been passed down for generations and is still practiced today. According to Liza Angin, Shonney’s aunt, the family has been making Siopon for many years, starting with their mother, Villine Lius, who is now 74 years old.
