Sendok Cafe — A Morning Symphony of Kampung Flavours at Riverson

Tucked within the lively promenade of Riverson – The Walk, Sendok Cafe unfolds like a gentle morning breeze from the kampung. This open-air, alfresco-style café invites you to slow down, breathe in the aroma of spices, and rediscover the soul of authentic Malay cooking.

From as early as 7:00 AM, the café comes alive with the comforting rhythm of breakfast. Steam rises, ladles clink, and the scent of simmering spices wraps around you like a familiar embrace. It is not just food being served here, it is heritage plated with care.

A Kitchen Led by Heart and Heritage

At the helm is Bonda Masliah, whose recipes carry the warmth of tradition, passed down through generations. Cooking alongside her is her son, Tuan Nazmir, an independent entrepreneur whose ventures span multiple industries, yet finds his deepest purpose in this heartfelt culinary tribute to his mother.

Together, they create dishes that are not rushed, not reinvented, but respected.

The Flavour Language of Rempah

What sets Sendok Cafe apart is its devotion to rempah-ratus — the intricate blend of herbs and spices that defines Malay cuisine. Each dish sings with aromatic layers of cinnamon, cloves, garlic, and other fragrant notes, carefully balanced to achieve that rich, soulful depth.

It is the kind of aroma that arrives before the plate does.

Must-Try Signature

Among the many offerings, one dish stands tall:

Nasi Kuning Ayam Masak Merah — a golden plate of turmeric-infused rice paired with tender chicken simmered in a vibrant, slightly sweet and spiced red gravy. It is bold, comforting, and quietly addictive.

Beyond this, the café showcases a wide selection of masakan ala-kampung, where freshness takes centre stage. Ingredients are thoughtfully sourced, with a strong emphasis on fresh meats and vegetables, ensuring every bite feels honest and wholesome.

In a world chasing trends, Sendok chooses to honour roots.

And that, perhaps, is its most delicious offering.
