A New Rhythm on the Streets: Kota Kinabalu Welcomes BUS.MY Community Service

KOTA KINABALU — The city wakes to a quieter kind of progress. Not the roar of traffic, but the steady, purposeful hum of something designed for everyone.

As of April 1, 2026, the BUS.MY community bus service officially begins its journey across Kota Kinabalu, marking a meaningful step toward a more connected, inclusive, and people-first urban lifestyle.

At launch, two key routes take center stage: Route S01, supported by six buses, and Route S05, operating with four. These routes form the backbone of a system that promises to grow, with more buses and expanded routes already on the horizon.0

This isn’t just about transportation. It’s about access.

For students rushing to class, working adults navigating daily commutes, and families planning their day, BUS.MY introduces a system designed with flexibility in mind. The introduction of the Consent Card, offered free to students, persons with disabilities (OKU), and senior citizens, signals a strong commitment to social inclusivity. Meanwhile, the 30-day pass provides a practical solution for the city’s working community, blending convenience with affordability.

Step inside, and the experience reflects modern expectations. Each bus is equipped with CCTV surveillance, ensuring passenger safety, while its OKU-friendly design makes mobility more accessible for all. It’s a thoughtful integration of technology and empathy, where infrastructure meets real human needs.

More than just a new service, BUS.MY represents a shift in how Kota Kinabalu moves forward. It encourages residents to rethink daily travel, reduce congestion, and embrace a shared system that benefits the wider community.

As the wheels begin to turn on Routes S01 and S05, they carry more than passengers. They carry the promise of a smarter, more inclusive city — one ride at a time.
