ILAU KALIMARAN FESTIVAL 2026 - Celebrating Murut Heritage, Cultural Identity & The Legacy of Antanom | Datuk Jamawi Jaafar - Kementerian Pertanian, Perikanan dan Industri Makanan Sabah (MAFFI)

TENOM, SABAH – The vibrant spirit of Murut heritage took centre stage at the Ilau Kalimaran Festival 2026, held at Dewan Masyarakat DSP Antanom, Tenom, bringing together communities from various Murut sub-ethnic groups in a celebration of cultural identity, unity and living traditions.

The festival was officially inaugurated by YB Datuk Ewon Benedick, representing the Chief Minister of Sabah, YAB Ketua Menteri Sabah.

One of this year's highlights was a spectacular cultural parade featuring 24 contingents representing various Murut sub-ethnic groups, with 19 contingents participating in the competition. The parade presented a colourful showcase of traditional attire, cultural expressions and the distinctive heritage that continues to define the Murut community.

More than a cultural celebration, Ilau Kalimaran represents the enduring spirit of harmony and diversity among Sabah's communities. It serves as an important platform to preserve and celebrate cultural identity, heritage and the values passed down through generations.

At the heart of this celebration lies the historical legacy of Antanom, the renowned Murut warrior whose courage, leadership and spirit of resistance remain deeply embedded in the history and collective memory of the Murut people. His legacy symbolises courage, dignity, perseverance and the determination to defend one's identity, culture and homeland.

The festival therefore carries a significance that extends beyond cultural performances and festivities. It is a reminder that heritage is a living legacy, shaped by generations and sustained through the commitment of communities to honour their history and traditions.

FAVSTYLE Magazine extends its heartfelt congratulations to YB Datuk Rubin Balang, the event organiser, together with the entire organising committee and all participating communities for their dedication and efforts in making Ilau Kalimaran Festival 2026 a memorable celebration.
