Borneo Roadshow Takes Sabah and Sarawak to Australia, Strengthening Tourism Ties

ADELAIDE, AUSTRALIA | 6 OCTOBER 2026 — The Sabah Tourism Board, in strategic collaboration with the Sarawak Tourism Board and Royal Brunei Airlines, has officially kicked off the Borneo Roadshow to Australia, beginning in Adelaide on 6 October 2026.

The roadshow brings together destination management companies, hoteliers, tourism organisations and regional partners to strengthen engagement with Australian travel agents, introduce new attractions and experiences, and provide the latest updates on tourism developments across Sabah and Borneo.

Representing Sabah on the Australian tour are partners including Sepilok Tropical Wildlife Adventure Sdn. Bhd., Ormond Hotels Group (Sandakan), Tabin Wildlife Holidays, Discovery Tours Sabah Sdn. Bhd., Sabah Convention Bureau, Sutera Sanctuary Collection, alongside Paradesa Borneo from Sarawak.




The initiative reflects a growing emphasis on collaboration within the Borneo tourism ecosystem, with Sabah and Sarawak working together to present the island as a diverse and compelling destination for the Australian travel market.

With convenient air connectivity and a rich combination of wildlife, nature, adventure, culture and hospitality, the roadshow aims to strengthen Borneo's position as a top-of-mind destination for Australian travellers.

More importantly, the Borneo Roadshow highlights the value of regional cooperation. By bringing Sabah and Sarawak's tourism products closer to the international trade community, the initiative creates stronger networks between destinations, airlines, tourism businesses and travel professionals.




Adelaide marks only the beginning. The next stop is Melbourne, as the Borneo tourism delegation continues its Australian engagement campaign.

For Sabah and Sarawak, the message is clear: Borneo is stronger when it travels together.

It was a very fulfilling and insightful trip to Keningau recently, where the Angin family from Kg. Biah, Sook celebrated an important engagement ceremony. A family member was engaged to someone from outside the Murut community. Shonney Doney, who is of Murut and Dusun heritage, became engaged to a Sino-Kadazan young man from outside the Keningau district. What was truly special is that the Angin family prepared a cultural presentation featuring Siopon, a traditional homemade rice drink kept in jars. The beverage has been passed down for generations and is still practiced today. According to Liza Angin, Shonney’s aunt, the family has been making Siopon for many years, starting with their mother, Villine Lius, who is now 74 years old.
