Borneo Takes the Stage

KOTA KINABALU, SABAH | 2026

Borneo is no longer waiting for the spotlight. It is stepping into it.

Borneo Rising 2026, presented by Astro with CelcomDigi as strategic partner, brings together emerging singers from Sabah and Sarawak in an eight-week competition created to discover and elevate East Malaysia's next generation of music talent.

With its live shows staged at ITCC Mall, Penampang, Borneo itself becomes the backdrop and the heartbeat of the competition.

MORE THAN MUSIC

Twelve talents from Sabah and Sarawak are battling for the chance to turn their voices into careers, guided by judges Noh Salleh, Marsha Milan and Shila Amzah, and hosted by Zizan Razak and Sherry Alhadad.

But Borneo Rising is about more than finding a winner.

The programme connects music, culture, technology and community, giving East Malaysian talent a national platform while celebrating the region's distinctive creative identity.

CELCOMDIGI CONNECTS THE EXPERIENCE

CelcomDigi's role goes far beyond branding.

Through its partnership, fans can participate in the competition through a digital voting ecosystem, with eligible prepaid reloads offering additional voting credits. Audience votes contribute 20% of the weekly final score.

The partnership also includes roadshows, fan experiences and the “Persembahan Paling Power” segment, bringing the programme beyond the television screen and into the community.

FROM BORNEO TO THE NATIONAL STAGE

The winner receives more than a trophy. The prize package includes opportunities for a new single, music video, digital content, marketing and promotional support, alongside Astro exposure and a potential tour opportunity.

Broadcast across Astro, RTM and digital platforms including Astro GO, Sooka and RTMKlik, Borneo Rising is reaching audiences far beyond Sabah and Sarawak.

And perhaps that is its greatest achievement.

Borneo is not simply producing talent for Malaysia. Borneo is becoming the stage.

It was a very fulfilling and insightful trip to Keningau recently, where the Angin family from Kg. Biah, Sook celebrated an important engagement ceremony. A family member was engaged to someone from outside the Murut community. Shonney Doney, who is of Murut and Dusun heritage, became engaged to a Sino-Kadazan young man from outside the Keningau district. What was truly special is that the Angin family prepared a cultural presentation featuring Siopon, a traditional homemade rice drink kept in jars. The beverage has been passed down for generations and is still practiced today. According to Liza Angin, Shonney’s aunt, the family has been making Siopon for many years, starting with their mother, Villine Lius, who is now 74 years old. Due to health reasons, she can no longer prepare it, so Liza and her siblings made the effort to learn and continue the family tradition.
