Born and raised in Sabah, Jack maintains a strong connection to the traditions and values of the Kadazan-Dusun community. For him, culture is not simply something to be remembered. It is something to be lived, celebrated and passed forward.

His dedication to indigenous culture first brought him into the spotlight when he represented KDCA Labuan at the prestigious Buvazoi Tavantang (Mr. Kaamatan) 2024 competition.

Competing alongside 49 finalists from Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia, Jack emerged as Second Runner-up, placing third overall.

Yet the significance of the competition goes well beyond the pageant stage. Buvazoi Tavantang celebrates knowledge of Kadazan-Dusun-Murut-Rungus culture, confidence, leadership, personality and community service. Jack's achievement therefore became a reflection not only of his personal qualities, but also of the cultural values he represents.

WHEN HERITAGE REACHES THE SUMMIT

Some of Jack's most meaningful moments have taken place far from any spotlight.

Among them was his climb up Mount Kinabalu with his mother, a personal milestone that fulfilled a lifelong dream. During the ascent, he discovered that he had accidentally left behind his traditional Sigar.

Rather than continuing without it, Jack made the decision to turn back nearly a kilometre to retrieve the traditional headgear.

It was a small act with a profound meaning.

Standing on Malaysia's highest peak, he wanted to do so carrying a symbol of his heritage. In that moment, the Sigar became more than an accessory. It represented identity, ancestry and the pride of being Sabahan.

6,100 METRES ABOVE SEA LEVEL

On 2 August 2026, Jack's journey reached an extraordinary new altitude.

He successfully conquered Khusargang Peak in Pakistan, standing at an elevation of approximately 6,100 metres above sea level.

Of the eight Malaysian climbers who participated in the expedition, only two reached the summit.

Jack was one of them.

The achievement marked a historic chapter in his personal journey, with Jack becoming the first Sabahan to stand atop Khusargang Peak and among the Malaysians to successfully conquer the mountain.

At the summit, he unfurled the Sabah flag against the vast landscape of Pakistan's high mountains.

The image carried a powerful message: Sabah's spirit can travel far beyond its shores.

For Jack, the climb was never simply about reaching a geographical point. It represented discipline, resilience and the willingness to continue when the mountain demands more from you than you thought you had.

At 6,100 metres, the Sabah flag became a symbol of courage and determination, carrying the identity of an entire state onto an international stage.

LEADERSHIP BEYOND THE LIMELIGHT

Jack's definition of achievement does not end with personal milestones.

He has also devoted time to charitable and community initiatives, including helping organise the Charity Hike Ranau 2025, which successfully raised funds in support of children living with thalassemia.

Such involvement reflects another dimension of his character: the belief that success becomes more meaningful when it creates opportunities to uplift others.

For Jack, leadership is not measured solely by titles, trophies or summits. It is also found in service, participation and the willingness to contribute to the community.
