In a defining moment for Sabah and the nation, Jack Arrey Jaim has ascended into the pages of history, becoming the first Sabahan to successfully conquer Khusargang Peak (6,100 metres), one of the majestic yet formidable summits nestled within the spectacular Shigar Valley of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan.
On 2 August 2026 at 8:07 a.m. (Pakistan Time), Jack stood at the roof of Khusargang Peak, where earth meets the heavens, triumphantly raising the Sabah flag above one of Pakistan's most demanding alpine landscapes. It was a moment of extraordinary pride that transcended personal achievement. Together with one fellow climber, Jack also became one of the first Malaysians in history to reach the summit of Khusargang Peak. From an eight-member Malaysian expedition, only two successfully completed the ascent, underscoring the mountain's unforgiving challenge and the magnitude of their accomplishment.
The seven-day expedition was a relentless test of courage, resilience, and endurance. Every step demanded absolute focus while confronting sub-zero temperatures, deep snowfields, razor-thin oxygen, and the ever-present danger of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). Beyond physical strength, the climb called for unwavering discipline, mental fortitude, teamwork, and an indomitable spirit capable of overcoming nature's harshest conditions.
Yet, Jack's triumph reached far beyond the summit itself.
In a powerful tribute to his roots, he proudly donned the Batanga Ginontihan, the traditional attire of the Dusun Bundu Tuhan community of Ranau, upon reaching the peak. Against a breathtaking backdrop of towering glaciers and snow-covered ridges, the cultural attire became a profound symbol of Sabah's identity, heritage, and pride, elegantly introducing the richness of Borneo's traditions to the world's highest frontiers.
Jack's remarkable achievement is more than an expedition. It is a story of vision, sacrifice, perseverance, and national pride. His historic ascent sends a powerful message to aspiring adventurers across generations: that extraordinary dreams are realised not by circumstance, but through relentless determination, courage, and the refusal to surrender.
As the Sabah flag fluttered above Khusargang Peak, it carried with it the hopes of a state, the pride of a nation, and the spirit of every dreamer who dares to reach beyond the horizon.
Jack Arrey Jaim has not merely conquered a mountain. He has elevated Sabah onto the global mountaineering stage, leaving behind an enduring legacy of excellence, courage, and inspiration that will echo for generations to come.
