Brewing Passion: Inside Borneo More’s Basic Barista Workshop
The aroma of freshly ground coffee filled the air at the Borneo More Training Room on 27 December 2025, as more than 15 coffee enthusiasts gathered for an immersive Basic Barista Workshop jointly organised by Borneo More and Nature Coffee.
Designed for participants aged 16 and above, the half-day workshop welcomed aspiring baristas, coffee lovers, and curious beginners eager to step behind the machine and understand the craft that turns beans into art. From 1PM to 4PM, the space transformed into a lively learning hub, buzzing with curiosity, laughter, and the rhythmic sound of espresso extraction.
Leading the session were two highly respected figures in the coffee scene, Dick Lee and Chiew Heng Hock. With more than 20 years of hands-on experience each, both coffee masters brought deep industry knowledge to the table, covering everything from coffee machinery and brewing techniques to product understanding and flavour profiling.
What set this workshop apart was its hands-on approach. Every participant had the opportunity to operate professional coffee equipment, experiment with brewing methods, and create their own coffee drinks. Under guided supervision, attendees refined their skills while sharpening their sensory techniques, learning how aroma, texture, and balance come together in a well-crafted cup.
The learning process was intentionally engaging and relaxed, making complex techniques accessible even to first-timers. Questions flowed freely, mistakes were welcomed as part of the journey, and each successful cup brought visible excitement and confidence.
Beyond technical skills, the workshop fostered appreciation for the discipline and passion behind coffee-making. Participants left not only with certificates of completion, but also with renewed confidence, improved sensory awareness, and a deeper respect for the craft of barista artistry.
As coffee culture continues to grow locally, workshops like this reflect a rising interest in quality, knowledge, and experience. For many attendees, this session marked the beginning of a new journey, one cup at a time.
