Where the Year Begins at the Table - The Happy Place Restaurant

Image
Start the year on a high note, not with noise, but with intention. With plates that arrive warm, glasses that sparkle under soft light, and conversations that linger long after the last bite. At Happy Place Restaurant, dining feels less like a routine meal and more like a shared ritual. The table opens with colour and confidence. A steak platter arrives first, seared with precision, its aroma deep and inviting. The first cut reveals a tender centre, juices flowing, carrying a bold, savoury richness balanced by subtle smokiness. Each bite feels grounded, honest, and indulgent without excess. The nachos follow with playful contrast. Crisp edges layered generously, kissed with tangy notes and gentle heat, each mouthful delivering crunch, creaminess, and a slow-building spice that keeps the palate awake. It is comfort food with character. Then come the prawns. Succulent, plump, and beautifully seasoned. Their sweetness is heightened by a lightly tangy sauce that dances between citrus brigh...

Sabah Sets the Stage for Visit Malaysia 2026 with a Cultural Welcome of Heart and Heritage

Image
Sabah ushered in the launch of Visit Malaysia 2026 with an elegant cultural reception at Kota Kinabalu International Airport, presenting arriving visitors with an immediate sense of the state’s warmth, authenticity, and deeply rooted cultural identity. The reception transformed the airport into more than a point of transit. It became a stage for storytelling, tradition, and welcome. The ceremonial welcome was led by YB Datuk Jaffry Ariffin, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Sabah, reflecting Sabah’s proactive role in supporting the national tourism vision while highlighting the state’s unique positioning within Malaysia’s travel landscape. His presence underscored the importance of Sabah as a frontline destination for immersive and experience-led tourism. Also in attendance were Datuk Dr. Hj. Sabin Samitah, Mayor of Kota Kinabalu; Mary Malangking, TSUT, Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment Sabah; Julinus Jeffery Jimit, Chief Executive Officer of Sabah Tourism Board; ...

Stay or Move On? The Quiet Resignation Question of 2026

Image
Every year, as calendars thin toward December, offices grow louder in a peculiar way. Not with celebration, but with whispers. “I might resign after bonus.” “I’m looking, but quietly.” “Next year, I’ll decide.” Resignation has become an annual ritual. Sometimes intentional. Sometimes accidental. Sometimes born out of exhaustion rather than ambition. As we step into 2026, the question no longer belongs only to employees. It belongs equally to employers. Can companies still sustain talent, or are they quietly preparing for turnover? Do organisations truly want retention, or are they increasingly open to new blood, fresh energy, and cheaper recalibration? The Private-Sector Reality For private-sector employees, the bargaining table is uneven. Unlike the public sector, there is no promise of permanence, no pension safety net, no fixed ladder. What remains is a constant negotiation between salary, stress, and survival. We often assume the decision to stay or leave revolves around m...

Domestic Journeys, Real Choices By Mr Alfred Allen, Editor-in-Chief

Image
As a Sabahan who travels frequently between Kota Kinabalu and Peninsular Malaysia, I often get asked a simple but layered question: In 2026, should we travel domestic or international ?   My answer is not romantic, but it is honest. Before we chase borders, currencies, and passports, we should look closely at what our own country already offers and how intelligently we travel within it. From Kota Kinabalu to Kuala Lumpur and onward to George Town , domestic travel in 2026 is not a compromise. It is a strategic choice. Why domestic travel still makes sense in 2026 Domestic routes from BKI to KUL and Penang are mature, frequent, and competitively priced. For Sabahans, this means less friction, shorter planning cycles, and more control over budget and time. When schedules are tight or travel is purpose-driven — work, family, short breaks — domestic travel delivers consistency. International travel still has its place, of course. But it demands more planning, higher costs, and t...
